How to start using a butt plug in 3 easy steps and other questions I often get asked about anal sex.
Let’s start at the beginning: What is a butt plug?
In it’s purest form it is a toy shaped specifically to be used in your bum. It will generally have a slightly tapered tip, going into a more bulbus shape, and then back into a smaller taper ending with a flared/wide base. The end is important for safety, your anal toy needs to have a base or end that acts like a stopper so that you do not run the risk of the plug being lodged in your anal cavity, as that would mean a visit to the Emergency room at your nearest hospital!
Step 1 : Select your butt plug
Selecting your first anal toy might seem a little intimidating, but it doesn’t need to be. My personal rule of thumb, start small and choose something you like the look of. You don’t want to pick something that is too big and that is going to cause you pain, you can always build up to bigger toys if you enjoy it or , if you are building up to anal sex.
Step 2 : Lube, lube and more lube!
The second thing you need to concentrate on, is getting a great lube! The bum isn’t naturally lubricated, so trying to get anything up your butt with out a decent amount of a good quality lube is going to hurt and not in the fun way. Getting back to basics, if you are using a silicone toy, don’t use a silicone lube. But if you are using a toy made from basically any other material then I would recommend a nice silicone lube, like the Pjur Back Door silicone lube. I also do NOT recommend starting out with a numbing spray . Something with a slight relaxing quality is ok.
Step 3 : Relax and have fun with it!
Sex should be fun and enjoyable , so whether you are trying out a butt plug by yourself for the first time, or with a partner, RELAX! A tensed up sphincter is not ideal, so breathe and enjoy exploring this new adventure you are about to embark on. Grab your new toy, add plenty of lube and have fun!
Other questions I often get asked about butt plus and anal sex.
Working in an adult shop, I get asked many questions about products and sex in general. Here are some of the bum related ones I get asked often.
1. Does anal hurt?
If you rush it, then yes, anal does hurt! But it doesn’t need to, if you take your time and progress slowly and carefully it doesn’t need to hurt.
2. Does it make me gay if I want to try a butt plug?
Nope! Men often give me the Scooby Doo “YELP” look when we stop at the strap-on’s or the butt plugs and their partners look at them with a big cheesy smile. But in all honesty, if you read a little more on the topic , you would realise that for men in particular exploring the wonders hidden in your bum is in no way linked to your sexual orientation, rather linked to your sexual education!
